Ingredients:
10 oranges
1 cup orange juice
Zest of one lemon or orange
3/4 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
1 teaspoon cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
4 Tablespoons honey
Greek yogurt
Preparation:
Supreme 8 of the oranges into segments by removing the rind and white pith and slicing the segments away from the membranes.
Put the sections in a strainer over a bowl to drain. You will make lots of juice in the process of liberating the sections. Periodically drain your cutting board into the bowl. Squeeze the remaining oranges as needed to end up with a cup of juice.
Combine the juice, ginger, cardamom, clove, zest and honey in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for a minute or two, then let cool. This is just a fancy, schmancy simple syrup.
Strain the syrup over the orange segments and chill overnight for tastiest results. Spoon over thick, pudding-perfect Greek yogurt.
This stuff can elevate a simple waffle to heavenly heights. You can garnish with toasted, slivered almonds or any nut, finely minced candied ginger, finely minced candied orange peel. However, this is a lily that doesn’t really need gilding.
