All citrus is 15% off at the co-op through Jan. 18! Tyrel T. from our produce department shares his guide to some of the citrus items.
Clementine Mandarins – These are the smallest type of mandarin orange. They are super sweet, seedless, and have a red-orange skin that’s smooth and shiny.
Navel Bags ‐ We have classic navels in 5 pound bags courtesy of Johansen out of California. One navel orange can provide up to 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C!
Kumquats – Originally from China. Now they’re also grown in several other countries, including in California. The peel of the kumquat is sweet and edible, while the juicy flesh is tart. They are an excellent source of fiber.
Chandler Pummelo – Like other pummelos, Chandlers are very large for citrus. Chandlers are particularly large and round, with a yellow to yellow-pink rind. The flesh is light to dark pink and ricey in texture but still juicy. Some seeds. The flavor is mostly sweet with some acidic notes.
Gold Nugget Mandarins – The Gold Nugget is a recently released mandarin variety developed by the University of California Riverside citrus breeding program. Gold Nugget fruits are usually medium in size and oblate in form with a bumpy orange rind. Seedless and richly flavored!
